I'm wondering if the Conn 79H's from the late 60's were engraved Elkhart Ind? Hoping someone here owns one, and could check.
(Early 70's ones were engraved Made in USA)

Again, thanks. Since Conn only made the 79H between 1966 and 1971 (according to the Conn Loyalist) it seems likely that the ones marked "Made in USA" were made in Elkhart, although possibly assembled and engraved in Abilene. Just seems unlikely that they would set up tooling in TX for only a short run.
The 79H also has the same size rotor valve as the 88H. I'm in the thinking stage of selling mine and just sticking with my Bachs, which I have a slight preference for, but have noticed that the 79 is more open on the trigger notes below the staff than my 36B and 42B, which also share the same size rotor.
Here's a revelation to me - based on the rotor caps, all 4 horns have the same size rotor!

There were some 79h made well after Elkhart, but they usually have bigger 8.5" bells. And some 79hs were repaired with 78h bells, which were available long before the 79h (back to the 1920s at least). My 79h is a 1970 Elkhart body with a 1950s 78h 7 5/8" red brass bell with the half moon engraving. It's hard to be absolutely sure about what you have based solely on the engraving.
