J Bend tuning slides

Hello Everyone,

I just purchased a beautiful used Adams alto and have a question about proper technique for pulling out the tuning slide. Is there a particular place that you can pull one handed without causing any issues? First time working with a design like this. Thanks for the help!

That is what my brain assumed as well, but it does not move one handed from that location.

I don't think you can find somewhere you can pull a tuning slide without a brace with only one hand, unless the slide is so loose it will not hold a setting. I would strongly recommend learning how to move the slide with two hands.

It's an alto. The tuning slide tubes are just there to add weight and ruin the partials, not to actually be used.

(But not)

Have you tried cleaning the tubes and using a lighter slide grease?

Thank you for the responses! I will check out some different greases and find a suitable way to use both hands to move the slide.
