I recently was given this antique / vintage mouthpiece, and I'm looking to identify the maker.

The engravings read "Special B S", "207" and "Miff Görling".

Miff Görling was a Swedish jazz player, and quite successful locally in the 1930's forward.

In particular, I'm looking to discern whether this might have been his personal piece, or whether it was a series made with his name on them. But any clue as to the maker would be excellent!

Defitely a Rudy Mück style rim. The rest of the shape doesn't match anything I know of.

The time frame would be about right. Miff Gorling was born in 1909 and died in 1988. He worked in Sweden from the late 20's into the 50's and pesumably beyond that but I don't find much about him online.

Rudy Muck came to the US in 1911 with his father who was an instrument repairman. He apparently made mouthpieces in the early 30's and then instruments, in Brooklyn NY.

Maybe some Swedish players know more.

Wow! It can´t be many of those around. I have one, it was given to me since Miff and my father was friends, they played some together. I did meet Miff (it wasn´t his real name) 1960, he did not play trombone any more, he wrote lots of music, mostly in the 40´s. The rim is very much like Garibaldi´s who I think made the piece, the cup is not like Garibaldi mouthpieces, not like Rudy Myck either. There maybe a possibility they was made in Sweden, there where som good brass shops that made good instruments like Erik Pettersson, Ahlberg Ohlsson, Birger Steiner and more. Miff is buried in "Skogs kyrkogarden" half a mile from my house. (I do think he died 1993?) No just checked 1998.
