Anybody know of some good bass trombone and band solos? My university concerto contest is opening for submissions soon and I'm trying to find pieces. I aware of steven verhelst, got an eye on his "World Concerto". Along with Barnscle Bill and Fly or Die, any other good pieces out there? Tuba music is acceptable but I'm looking for actual bass trombone solos.

Johan de Meij's Canticles is a good piece for solo bass trombone and band, although not really a concerto per se.

Tom Kubis "Jingle Bells", Sam Every arrangement of "Frosty The Snow Man" for that seasonal feel!

Doesn't have to be a "concerto", just a solo piece for your instrument and band. Theres the option of it with orchestra or brass choir, but the orchestra at my uni really doesn't exist so.

Subzero is always a winner

there are also versions made for band (by Steven Verhelst)
But there is also smaller settings for the "non existent" orchestra.
Ballade by ewazen is beautiful, or the zwillich concerto.
The christopher gordon is also nice.

Then you can always have a look at Elizabeth Raum's Concerto for bass trombone, strings and percussion, available from Cherry Classics. I think when I played it I had 12 or 13 strings, and one percussionist; it doesn't require big numbers. It's a bit cheesy at times but it's very well written, idiomatic for the instrument and fun for the audience to listen to.

Proclamation by Gordon Langford. Original is for bass trombone and brass band, the composer later re-set the piece for wind band. In my opinion it works better with a smaller (i.e., mostly one-to-a-part) band than with an 85 piece wind symphony.
I know the brass band version is still available, I'm not sure about the wind band.
