Watrous would be playing on a 2b here, right? Didn't all the guys in Kai's trombone bands play Kings?

We, if the still frame above is any indication, Watrous isn't playing a king horn at all.

Probably a Stock Photo? The Radio show is from 1962, I doubt Bill was rocking that hair in 1962.

You are probably right. We'll probably never know.

That Watrous picture is from his days with Famous Door Records, which was somewhere around 1980ish.

Dana, thanks for posting this.

Kai Winding and Bill Watrous are my two favorites of all time. This video reminded me of an Monk Rowe interview with Watrous. At 15:30 in he begins his story about when he was in the process of being discharged with the navy and how looked up and called Kai Winding to ask to play. He also does a spot on impersonation of Kai Winding and how he used to do many Dixieland gigs during his early time in New York.

Unfortunately the link on YouTube can't be shared. If interested look up "Monk Rowe interview with Bill Watrous" on YouTube.

Wow the sound in the opening of that video is absolutely terrible.
