I put this in Tangents category because there is many questions. First of all I love the Chicago Symphony and recently there seems to be more and more recordings from earlier days coming up. So questions is what trombone is Edward Kleinhammer playing in this video? Looks like an Thein but it cannot be? It's not a Bach? The tuba player is not Arnold Jacobs unless he did colour his hair? :D Should be only 3 trombones in this symphony, but they use 4? And is it Michael Mulcahy beside Jay Friedman? It looks like like him but this was before his time?

Anyway, I love the energy and drive in the last movement.

Kleinhammer is using his final instrument, a Earl Williams/Bach-Haynor/Meinl/Schilke hybrid horn he had put together.

The assistant principal was James Gilbertsen: https://chicagoclassicalreview.com/2011 ... rs-retire/

Obviously a substitute tuba. Floyd Cooley? Rex Martin? I don't know.

That’s a lot of tubing. Was it tuned in Bb-F-C-?.

Independent D, IIRC.

Bb/F/D/??

Gotta be close to Bb with both.

Cheers,
