King 2103 usa 3B Silver

Post by Grotewobbo »

Hello there,

I have a brass King 3B and I was looking for a silver one and I think I found a cheap one for €1150. On the bell it says:

King 2103 USA 3B
Serialnr: 315374

I mean this has got to be a professional silver King 3B right but after they didnt name it Silversonic anymore? Or did they also have beginner bones with those names? It's a bit of a long drive for me but I might do it if it's worth the trouble. I'll try to add an image:

It's a 3B. Look further up the bell stem for a Pound Sterling mark (£). Without this mark you have a silver plate, not a sterling silver bell.

You will know. If the thing weighs ten pounds then it's a Silversonic. If it weighs the same as a duck, then it's made of wood.

But did King even made silver plated trombones? I assume 2103 3B is a pro model right?

Yes, silver plated King trombones were made. I owned a 4B and a 5B that were silver plated. Seems that schools in the US south prefer silver plating for the marching band.

2103 is a pro model. A 3B is a 3B. You don't have to be a pro to play one.

Ok thank you for your info Bruce. I just thought every silver King trombone would automatically be a sterling silver bell and not just silver plated. Not really a Pro myself haha but I can feel and hear the difference now between an intermediate tbone and a pro model. Thx!
