Rediscovering my Conn 44H Vocabell

I bought a Bach 36B a couple of years ago that occupies one of the 3 stands my wife allows me to have in the living room (where I practice). My daily driver stayed out as did my new (to me) bass. Something had to go, so I banished my Vocabell to the coat closet thinking it would be close enough to play from time to time. That's where it stayed until this morning. What a treat it was to give it a blow. The little thing sounds lovely, projects when you need it, and just looks downright cool on the stand and in your hand. I'm going to take it to rehearsal next week and see what the rest of the section thinks of it. Do any of you Vocabell owners play yours regularly? I'd like to know if you're as pleased with yours and how you use them.

Nothing like reconnecting with a horn that still sings.

Me! Mine is from 1935. I think mine could tell many a tale, but I've had this horn since 1990 so I know the ones since then. ;-)
Mine gets taken out to rehearsals many times a week across a big band, a 4 horn 'little big band' and a New Orleans Brass Band (Funk, not trad) Recently been wanting something a bit more medium bore, with a trigger, to play in the little big band, but that's because of the range /parts I'm trying to cover (including some bass trombone). But the Vocabell is a joy to play and for now is what I play in these bands.

I had a good experience with mine at rehearsal last week. I thought it sounded pretty good and blended well with the section (which is a real hodge-podge with a King 2b on 2nd, Olds Super on 3rd and Shires on bass). At a gig yesterday, we saw another blast from the past in a community band: a Conn 40H with a 7" bell and TIS. The old horns (and horn players) are still holding up their end of the bargain!

I played one until I got myself a slightly bigger horn with G att. I loved the Vocabell! I struggled a bit to have the high notes in tune cause the thing would blow slightly flat. Everything above the high C ... But I struggled even more when I decided to sell it to finance it's replacement ;)
