Mouthpiece Advice – Denis Wick 5BS?

Hey all, I’m first chair trombone in a community band, playing marches, concert band lit, and movie soundtracks. I’m on a small shank Dillon F-trigger and switching between a Denis Wick 6BS and 4BS.

The 6BS feels too small and thin-sounding, while the 4BS has the sound I want but feels a bit too big. I love the rim on both.

Would the 5BS be a good middle ground? Or any other suggestions with a similar rim and a cup size in between?

I have both 4BS and 5BS. I think the 5BS would be a good option.

I'm using the Dennis Wick Heritage 5BS on a King 3B+ and love it. Tried the 6BS first and liked that too but wanted something larger to make the low F and Eb fuller. Once we got the low F the way we wanted we did not need to go to the 4.

Its taken a while but I can easily hit the High Bb. Working on High C and D to get the Bb to sound better.

Also working on short quick low notes that do not blurt, fluff and chug. Loud and Low is pretty. Loud, Low and Quick needs a little more work.
