Silver horn for marching

Post by marchingtbn »

Hello! First post here. Seeking recommendations on a new trombone for marching.

Playing history: Started on a Yamaha M1 in 1996. I still have this horn and use it as my "outside" or marching horn. Between MS, HS, and college, I marched for 9 years. I started college as a music major (trombone), but gave that up and set my horn down for 10 years. For the past 8 years, I have played with community bands, including parade marching bands and pep bands. My Yamaha just doesn't cut it anymore - it doesn't sound great and is starting to rust - so I'm looking for a new trombone for marching gigs.

I've always dreamed of owning a silver-plated trombone, but I've never tried one. I'm also wanting a straight tenor, as I won't have the need for the trigger and am looking to have a lighter instrument. I'd also like an intermediate-to-professional model, in medium or large bore. Since I've always marched with a Yamaha, I have a slight preference for this brand for nostalgic reasons, but I'm open to anything that fits the bill.

I've read through several threads on TromboneChat, but thought I'd start a new thread for specific advice from the community. Any suggestions are welcomed and appreciated!
