I'm a little confused about why this Selmer Bolero hasn't sold.  Image It's a perfectly nice horn. It plays well. Cello suites, flute fantasies, Rochut, very nice on this horn. Quartet music, top 3 parts, great. 3rd  book in a big band, fantastic. Concert band, wail on it. First part in lighter orchestra fare, do it.  Marching band? It deserves more, but sure. Oktoberfest is coming, and you might need a horn for that drunken romp. First trigger horn for a student. Play in a pit band where quarters are tight? Need a spare backup horn in the trunk? Trigger range positively booms for a .508 horn. Read what the forum has to say about Selmer Bolero, it's all great stuff. And this one goes to 11. Image

Yes, it has had some work done, yes, it is missing some lacquer. The case will work for shipping, but not much beyond that.

No wear on stockings, slide lubes up nicely, and no dents. Horn has been cleaned inside and out, and the valve has been serviced. Tuning slides lubed. It does have a patch on the outer lower slide in the grip area.

It's a solid horn at a can't-complain-about-that price. There are no dents. Tuning crooks move as they should. Handslide crook is not dented.

I bought it because I was curious about how these things play. Now I know, and I can pass it on to the next person. Selling it for the same price I paid for it, even though I paid to have some dents taken out and the valve serviced. The reason I'm selling is that it plays between my favorite 79h and a fantastic Yammie 691. I'm trying to cut down to 4 horns (from 13).

Dillons lists these around $1100. I'm listing this for $650 +shipping (probably $35). It's a solid horn. Did I mention no dents? Image

I'm keen on the Yamaha 691. Can you give any info about which leadpipes, also price and wear and tear? My current '70s Yamaha is starting to de-chrome on the inner slide.

Ok, the 691. Really great player. This is one I hesitate to sell. It has a little acid bleed around the rim. Very good slide. No wear-thru on the slide. All yellow brass. Missing some lacquer around the hand grip. It has the #2 leadpipe. Torpedo counterweight. Has a decent looking case. I got it from Sam Ash for $999. The tag is still on it. I felt it was totally worth it. I don't think I'll sell it unless I can get that much out of it. If I had to keep this one, it wouldn't kill me. No dents, maybe some little dings here and there. Someone might have buffed the bell a little harder than they should have, so it has little buffing swirls on it, but all the lacquer is still there, no signs of repair. Both crooks are smooth and round. I played Misty on it tonight with the quartet, and ended on a high Eb. This is one of those horns. It has a really clear tone. I also have a 651, and it's hard to say which one I like better, but the 691 with its bigger tone is more practical for me, and more my style. I put handlebar tape around the neckpipe and brace for comfort.

I'd be comparing the 691 against the 10h/48h with a modified Wide Glide 6h slide. The Conns have more character, but the Yamaha has more clarity/purity. The big negative for me with the 691 is the slide is a bit narrow, and I've got a wide neck. After you play the 691 for a while, there was a bit more resistance in the high Ab-C range than on the rest of the horn.

I've got a pretty skinny neck so I think it would suit me fine. I'll message you out of the public forum to refine our discussion........
