Can anyone explain the unusual serial number?

It appears to be an early abilene horn- maybe even some Elkhart parts?

Conn Loyalist puts the HA serial numbers at 1980. While it's not clear on her site, I think they started over from 0 and moved up, so you appear to have the second horn of that production run.
The HA went from 1980 to 1987.

It's clearly Abilene, and most likely late.  I'm not certain that "early Abilene" is actually a selling point. I've heard that those were the horns that had the most trouble.

Signs of full-on Abilene pedigree include the engraving, but also the soldered-on, flanged brace sockets. Anything out of Elkhart would most likely have had brazed-on brace sockets on the bell and the slide handles.

I had an early Abilene 5H that was a player! I guess they did make a few good ones, but they did have a not so good reputation.
