For Sale: Kanstul 1602B Tenor Trombone

Really sad to let this one go, but I need the money for other projects. The 1602B is Kanstul's replica of one of Alan Kaplan's favorite horns, a custom H.N. White (King) trombone made by Matty Shiner for Tommy Dorsey in the late 1930's. It has a .500 slide and a one-piece 7.5" yellow brass bell with a clear epoxy lacquer. The 1602B is a very unique instrument. It is relatively small bore, extremely light, but not annoyingly bright; the tone is very malleable and can get quite dark when played softly. This is what attracted me to the instrument in the first place, I wanted something "smaller" and responsive for jazz (coming from a 3b) that didn't feel as stuffy and bright as a 2b. The physical characteristics of the horn (extremely light, comfortable) parallel the way it sounds: it is very sonorous, predictable in the high register, and generally just "easy to play"... It does what you tell it to.
Here's what Alan Kaplan has to say about the horn: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gl54TRTZimo
The 1602B has one of the lightest slides I have ever felt; it makes the 2b slide feel like a lead weight. In fact the whole horn is light, especially the bell, which is made from .020" brass, thinner than most trombones. This makes it a joy to play, it's superb balance makes it feel great in your hands, and the lightweight slide is shockingly nimble.
Details:
Purchased from Steve Ferguson in 2010. Horn is in great condition, with light lacquer wear that is expected from normal use. This horn has had a few minor dents repaired by tromboneforum celebrity/low-brass repair wizard John Sandhagen over the years, which you can see in the pics. The slide crook was replaced with a factory new Kanstul 1602B crook after the old one was dented; you can see the slight change in lacquer color on the new crook. The new crook has an extremely minor and entirely superficial dent on the inside, which can be seen in the pictures. The slide is in excellent shape, no snagging, dents, corrosion, or hangups, and was realigned by Mr. Sandhagen this past week. I like to be 100% transparent when selling an instrument and document every minor imperfection, but as you can see in the pictures that overall, the horn really does look great.
Horn includes:
-3 removable screw-in leadpipes: "AK" (alan kaplan), "W6" (williams 6), and "S" (LT16M style, "Les Benedict's Favorite" and my personal favorite!)
-PVC leadpipe protective sleeves
-SKB case (the horn didn't come with a case, but I'll throw in an SKB hard shell if you need one. Same price with/without the case)
