So... what’s the lightest small bore (.500 or less) brass trombone out there? Thanks!

If yoyu can find one, a Holton Paul Whiteman. But they haven't made them for 75 years.

Easily one of the Butler trombones. They're made out of carbon fiber so the whole horn weighs less than just the lightweight slide of a metal trombone. EDIT: I'm assuming by the 'brass' modifier you are looking for something metal. Are you also looking for yellow brass in particular or nickel slides? Usually the lightweight designation on metal horns means the slide is made of nickel instead of brass and doesn't have oversleeves.

He did say
brass...
Note that he didn't specify that it needed to play well

The Kanstul 1606 is very light weight if I compare to all others I have in brass, it is .500 bore.

The Martin Urbie Green is very light as well. I sometimes use a Butler outer slide on mine. When I do, I think that if it were any lighter, it float away like a balloon!

Maybe we should have a thread of trombone weights.
If you can find one, the Olds Featherweight lives up to its name. Lots of nickel silver, though.

Yes, olds featherweight. Pretty rare.

Are you asking out of curiosity or do you need one?

I have a Benge 170 that seems pretty light. Especially after holding my 88H.

If your talking about instruments still in production, then I'd have to give the nod to the XO 1632. I weighed it at nearly 3 oz less than a King 2B with the lightweight slide. Not a lot less, but a bit...

The XO 1632 is lighter than the Jiggs if memory serves correct, and they're great playing horns.

I have a NY 8 with the weird German(?) brass bell is crazy thinness, mated to a custom .500 attributed to a Byron Peebles special order, subsequently closeted, the whole thing being ridiculously light and chocolaty.

I have an E.M. Winston (Boston) Straight tenor that I bought for $25 at a thrift store. I don't have an exact weight but it's the lightest horn I've ever touched, but somehow maintains some pretty solid projection and intonation.

My Conn 100H is very light compared to King 2B/3B and the Olds Recording I just sold.

Any small Bach with an LT slide is so light you can snort it.
