Post by LeoInFL »

Are Besson handslides compatible with any other manufacturer (Bach, Conn, etc)?

Thanks

There was a Besson 945F on Reverb today (nice horn that somebody got cheap). It had a lightweight 0.547/0.562" slide.

I have a BE944R (hagmann). I know that it’s not compatible with a Bach 50 as it uses a smaller thread. Based on other threads I think that means it’s not compatible with a 42 as the 42 and 50 are the same.

I used to have a bell section from a 942-large bore, straight tenor- but it would not fit the Conn or Yamaha slides I had available to use with it. I finished up having to buy a new Conn tapered bell receiver to make it work.

I think the BE 945 was a fairly rare model. I have never seen one in the flesh.

You should be aware that this was made at a time when Besson were not making their best instruments! It was a similar situation to the Abilene Conns, so be warned.

Cheers

I saw that horn on Reverb too - pretty nice condition for $400 seemed like a steal

I have a 945F yellow bell, dual bore light weight slide. Mikes better than a 944 with or without Hagmann. Best Besson I’ve played. Very heavy bell.

Came to me from Denis collection. Through his son Steve.

I tested it on a Besson 944 and it fits Conn slides
