Shires leadpipe

Post by Nerby »

Hey, all. I'm looking to try some new leadpipes, but for various reasons, It's quite difficult at the moment to try out leadpipes. I play currently on a MK Drawing MV42 in nickel silver. I find that it is a little to large for me, though I do really like it. I played on a Shires 2.5 in the past, and it was okay, I liked the size more or less, though the one I had was super tight fitting and I just don't like to use it for that reason - I also miss the nickel every time I put it in. I played a 3 - too big, felt like my horn was bottlenecking the leadpipe in the weirdest way. 2 that came with my slide I find to be so stuffy and uncomfortable.

So I want a leadpipe that is maybe from a new brand, and around the size of a Shires 2.5 - hard to quantify I know. Anyone play something similar to a 2.5?

Also, I'm looking to try leadpipes and keep my mouthpiece and the horn a control variable.

Thanks!

Some context:
Shires 7GM, TW47, Q rotor, TY tuning slide. I played on a TX tuning slide for a month or two and decided It doesn't work with the setup - whether it would work better with A TII bell I don't know, but I don't have ~$800 to find out currently.

IIRC TX tuning slide are designed to go with the TII bells for more of a "Bach style" setup.

Others will chime in but the Bach 42 pipe is generally considered to be "about" a 1.5 in Shires terminology. But these could vary between manufacturer making the 42 replicas. Also you have the variable that is yourself.

I have found success (so far!) with the shires sterling silver pipes and use the 1.5 in a Bach 50 and a 1 in a Shires TB47. The SS aren't cheap however but do come up occasionally on the secondary market.
