Selmer Special 23?

Post by gregwaits »

Is there an online spec / serial # data base for French Selmer trombone models?

Greg, I don't think there is.

I had a Selmer Special 23 some years ago with a fairly low serial number, just 3 digits. It took me some years to date it. I finished up asking the Bach representative if he could find out. It took him a couple of months but it was eventually dated to around 1956.

There are some different" Special" models. My 23 was a small bore, smaller than the contemporary Besson/B&H models 0.487in. It had a 7.5in bell with a very narrow Krantz (is that a French bead?) and the main bell brace was a double curve, like a flattened out "S"
There was also a "K Modified" model which had a King style bell brace. I have a Selmer, London catalogue from 1962 showing this model and listing 8in and 8.5in bell models and describing them as large bore; I suspect that was probably 0.500in!!!

DJ is a person with some knowledge of Selmer Paris trombones and I suspect he has some stashed away.

I do have some data on Selmer Paris mouthpieces-I have 3 different models.

Cheers
