Slide repair service in Germany (or Central Europe)

Post by MStarke »

To the Germans or middle Europeans:

Do you know of any really good, reliable and fast slide repair service that offers a simple Mail-based service, maybe even providing special packaging for the slides?

I feel it's much easier to get decent repair for valves and bell sections than to get a slide optimizer.

Would be great to get your ideas!

(I know Lätzsch, Kromat etc who do great quality, but their turnaround time can be pretty long)

I have previously worked with Janek Süss in Germany. He had a great turnaround time and was willing to do packaging and mailing. Although I never had him work on a slide specifically.

Had not heard of that shop yet.

However I am specifically looking for a shop that is known to do great slide work AND offers an easy and quick mailing service.

I have tried a few in the last years, but either the work took to long/had a long waiting time or it wasn't a convincing result. or both - even worse.

Who's your go to slide guy if turnaround time is not an issue?

Have had good experience with Kromat and would also go to Lätzsch. but they are typically pretty busy and prefer people bringing and picking up things in person. No really good option closer to Hamburg that I am aware of.

Gerd Kempkes Bocholt does a lot of mail repairs. Return can be fast, but check his backlog first!

Heard good things about mailing slides to Kerstin Voigt in Markneukirchen. It's one of the larger workshops, so it might also be faster..
I think they can provide packaging.

Some good ideas here! didn't know Gerd Kempkes yet, have also heard good things about Marcel Schot (but would prefer somewhere in Germany). Voigt could be a good idea to!

Any others?

Joseph Gopp or Nils Buddenbohm are great. Might work better time and location wise depending on where you live Markus.

Also Merry Christmas everyone.

I could recommend someone down south (near Stuttgart) if you don’t find a good option close by.

If you would like to borrow a slide dr box, you’re welcome to lend it for the cost of shipping.

Nils BUddenbohm could be a good fit. I have already heard some contact and heard very good things. plus I sometimes get in that area during my business travels or visiting friends.

Fidbone: Thanks, I know and have tried that shop in the past.

Nils in Minden is a great guy and builds excellent instruments. His slide work is top-notch!

Tim, thanks for confirming! I think that might be the best choice. I also know more of his customers who seem to be really happy with his work. Will probably contact him in January.

Lätzsch made a very good slide alignment and chrome plating job for me on a Kruspe bass bone slide in 2002, I did deliver the slide in a homebuild slide box, and got it send back to Copenhagen 3 weeks later. Excellent work for a very reasonable fee.It did help to deliver and discuss in German, I wont know if the turnaround time would be the same 22 years later, though.
