Much of the way we hear Bruckner today has to do with Siegmund von Hausegger

In 1932, von Hausegger conducted a concert by the Munich Philharmonic in which the Bruckner's 9th was performed twice; first in commonly-performed edition by Ferdinand Löwe...then again using Bruckner's original autograph.

That side-by-side comparison seems to have been the end of smoothed-out Bruckner and the beginning of a search for the original drama.

von Hausegger had been a composer himself and had success before WWI, but according to Wiki his music disappeared from the concert hall as the style of Wagner "fell out of favor".

This is pretty good. Another 19th Century talent that could be resurrected.
