Griego 4M
Hello all! I’ve been looking at a Griego 4M but I’m curious to know how big the cup depth is. I’ve been playing on Laskey 57D for a while and I’ve found that the rim might be a bit too small for me while at the same time the cup is a bit too big. Would switching to a Griego 4M be a wise decision or would I be better off with something different? I would try out the pieces in person but none of my local music shops offer Griego mouthpieces. Ive also been looking at the Griego Artist/Alessi 5c, Griego 4.5, Griego Steve Lange and Hammond 12ML.

Have you tried emailing Griego?
Also a Laskey 59MD might be just what you are looking for.

Also yeah the laskey 59MD was definitely something I looked at, but I’m not completely sold on the feel of the rim on my current Laskey so I’m not sure.

Re: Griego 4M
I played on a Griego NY 4 for quite a bit. I also tried the Laskey 59MD against it for a period of time. A 4 M will be very different than the 57D. You’ve probably looked at the specs a lot, so I won’t get into that. The Griego rim is definitely a little more round overall and has a softer inner bite. It’s definitely going to feel larger. The M cup on the Griego is also much shallower than the Laskey D cup. I actually felt like the Laskey MD cups were shallower than the regular 4 cup, but it was more shape, etc.
Honestly, it’s hard to compare/contrast those two pieces. If you want a little larger different rim and a shallower cup, then the Griego will fit. If you go with the Classic Griego seiries, get a NY or Nouveau blank; coming from a Laskey a Deco blank would feel like playing a brick. Now the Griego Artist series is an entirely different conversation. Just my $0.02……Hope this helps.
