Yamaha Silent Brass with headphones
Hi, I’d like to know your thoughts about practicing with the Yamaha silent brass with the headphones. Has anyone practiced regularly in this way? What are your experiences? I'm not asking your thoughts about practicing or not with the practice mute, I mean specifically this model of silent mute withheadphones. Do you really have the impression of hearing your sound while your practice with mute?

I hate earbuds. For a long time I would use an old set of Walkman phones with my Silent Brass. Worked great.

Yes it worked very well for me for years. I really liked the reverb settings.
It’s just like playing with a mute. So you have that sensation of the air not flowing as freely.
The sound is amazing. Frankly I think the sound is too generous for how it really sounds.
Still too loud for an apartment at night in my opinion. But could extend practice in your house in evenings for people sleeping.
I once joked I was going to hook it up and play it through a PA system and I’ll sound like Ralph Sauer.
Mine just died the other day bought it in ‘96. Now time for a new one.

Thank you for yours answers! So, how was going back to playing without a mute? Have you had any issues with muscle memory? Do you only play with a mute when you don't have the opportunity to play loudly or do you still include it in a daily routine to create a habit?

No issues at all. In fact I think it helped me fill the horn with more air. No muscle differences at all.
Biggest issue I had was silent brass is too kind and would almost encourage me to not be as precise with my technique.
I didn’t play with a mute often other than the silent brass that I used daily for 2 years or so.
I preferred playing without the mute but that’s personal preference.
It’s worth every penny. I’m buying the new version soon this month or next.
