A pic being worth 1,000 words, here is a recently-acquired case that I am going to attempt to re-furbish. It was a flea market find, yes it has that old, musty basement smell, but it is a woodshell case that seems to be structurally sound.
Having tackled at least a half-dozen before, I thought I would post these pics to show why I have posted here before that I don't believe sprays, such as Febreeze, or setting the case out in the sun for a few days has a long-lasting effect. The problem is the smell, whether mold or old glue, gets embedded in the wood. Often, when I peel the covering back, there is visible mold.
The only permanent remedy is to take it down to bare wood, sand, clean, and treat it, then re-cover and re-line.
A big job, not recommended unless you're a bit crazy like me!

Re: Another Stinky Case Thread
There is a problem with posting pictures. I suspect we have maxed out our image storage. I don't know what I can do for this -- it's above my pay grade.
If you can find another online home for the pictures, you can "insert" them using IMG tags. I've shown how to do this in at least two other threads.

Re: Another Stinky Case Thread
I think this happened since it was allowed
to attach an unlimited number of high-resolution photos to posts. (Used to be limited to 3 pics.). These photos take a lot of storage, and load slowly unless you have a superspeed Internet connection.
I always "resize" my photos before posting (reduced to ~500-700 kb instead of ~5,000 kb) and attach only a few pics to get the message across.
Looks like TC may have to reserve (& pay for) more storage.
