I've started making solid wood mutes with a really good friend of mine who happens to be an accomplished master wood-craftsman here in LA (and he is also a fan of brass instruments) and he is really into the project, as you will see.
Here's our bass trombone straight mute, based on the vintage DePolis straight mute. Made of solid wood, finished in black walnut burl. Feels amazing in the hand and will last for generations if you take care of it. Signed with a serial number. Of course, it sounds amazing too! Since its all solid wood, it has a wonderful resonance and color.
