Hi guys! I've got another horn for sale! I know I'm going to regret selling this... but I just picked up a horn from Noah and this needs to go towards the purchase!

For sale is a modified Holton TR185

This horn is a older one made not too long after the move to Leblanc. Still has the old HOLTON & CO engraving, 169 style throated bell, 169 style tuning slide and 169 leadpipe. At one point the handslide receiver was changed... so I have no idea what the original production date was but I know it's definitely not one of the later ones from the 70's.

It has had a few mods. Plastic linkage and the Minick style open wrap. The mods were done before I purchased the horn, I believe they were done by a tech in Canada. The horn also comes with two little doodads that put the F attachment into bE. Leadpipe is still stock and plays great.

The slide has some wear on the stockings (I'll add some pictures soon) and needs an alignment for full time use. I'd peg the slide at maybe a 6 or 7 out of 10 at best right now, it's usable but not lightning fast. Based off of previous experience, when the slide is in alignment it can feel pretty good, around an 8-9 or so out of 10.

The horn can include a beat up Eastman case for a extra $100 or the original stinky case for free. It's super stinky though haha.

I would like to get $1700 for the horn PayPal Goods N' Services. Shipping is free! Stinky case is included for free but I would prefer to ship without. Add $100 for a beat up Eastman case instead. No trades, I need the cash.

I do need to sell the horn and I am open to all offers!

How does it play? What situations did you use it in?

Forums have been janky the past couple days, sorry for the slow response.

The horn has your typical dark but also very warm sound that Holton's are known for. Compared to a TR181 or TR180 this horn has a darker core to the sound but also a little more sizzle when you push it. Think vintage Premru or Dave Taylor.

Something nice is the horn seems to not mind big mouthpieces. Ive played Holton's where they completly back up on you if you use anything larger then a 1 1/4 but this thing will take all the air you throw at it. This one is also fairly light, not too heavy but also not paper thin light either.

The horn is at home in Orchestra, concert band or jazz band. I used it whenever I didn't need two valves.

What if I throw in the Eastman case for free now? So it would be $1300 for the horn and the Eastman case!

Still considering other cash offers also! I might also consider partial trades on a Large Bore tenor or bass trombone leadpipes (specifically a Brass Ark MV50B or Herrick 62H pipe)! I just need a certain amount in cash which we can discuss!

Alright this is this last call for this horn.

I'll drop the price to $1200. This includes free shipping, PayPal fees and the Eastman case. I'm willing to ship to the U.K but you need to help me out a bit on shipping and fees.

I have a check coming the second week of November that will help me cover the purchase I made from Noah. If this horn doesn't sell by then I'll just keep it for myself!
