Getzen 1052FDR/1052FD Eterna Series Bass Trombone

Post by LarryPrestonRoberson »

I have a few questions about the Getzen 1052FDR/1052FD Eterna Series Bass Trombone.

1) Are the rotors on the Getzen 1052FDR Eterna Series Bass Trombone unique to that line? Or is that the same rotor (the valve itself) available on the Edwards horns—conventional rotor (CR)?

2) Is the main tuning slide of the 1052 compatible/interchangeable with the Getzen 3062 or Edwards bass trombones?

3) Reviews/opinions of the Getzen 1052 Eterna Series would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know if there is a definitive answer to #1 but they are good rotors nontheless. The main tuning slide is compatible with Edwards bass trombones, never tried a 3062 but I suspect they are as well.

I had a 1052 that I really liked. I'd still be playing it but being the perennial tinkerer, I wanted to have Infinity Rotors put on it... not because I thought the rotors were bad but because... why not!? :shuffle: Then.... a lot transpired and I ended up with a Shires screwbell and had some other Shires stuff sitting around so it's currently being built (done but getting shipped to me soon!)

The bell on the 1052 is actually very light (which contradicts my assessment of it when I first got the horn I thought it had a rather heavy bell). I think the feeling came from not having dialed in my equipment choice for it and using a too open leadpipe. If you go more towards the 'tight'/Bach side of things (Bach 50 replica, Edwards/Getzen 1, Shires 1, etc.) it is a really great horn.

The only complaint I would have about it is that if you have smaller hands as I do, it is s little odd to hold. I was able to get something that I thought was comfortable with a Neotech after quite a bit of adjustment but it seems to have a littel wider spread from the F attachment to the upper slide brace than most horns. So if buying blind know that it could possibly be an issue but there are ways around it so if you get it for the right price, you'll still come out ahead.

Do you happen to have that 1052 valve section still lying around?
