I am putting together a valve section for a buddy’s Shires large bore horn. Unfortunately, I haven’t seen anyone selling a valve side tenon or locking nut.
It might be a crazy idea, but I was thinking of turning one on my metal lathe. Unfortunately I don’t have any specs. Before I go through the process of measuring, does anyone know offhand the thread size, inner diameter and overall length of a Shires tenon?
Thanks in advance
Jim

Shires will sell that part to you; last time I ordered one it was relatively short time period. Just indicate that you're working on a Shires horn when you go to buy it. Part isn't very expensive either. And it comes with the brace brazed to the receiver and the locking nut nested inside.

Hah! I do the opposite, and make the recievers on the bell sections all the time. Not all the difficult, just have to nail the angle of the inside bore. For some reason i think this is the part you are talking abouy anyway.Jimtrombone wrote: ↑Mon Mar 25, 2019 1:08 pm I am putting together a valve section for a buddy’s Shires large bore horn. Jim- i only make them when i want to use a funky material these days, i think its like 1.85° or something like that. As for the threads, not worth the time to make it, shires will sell it to you for less than your time is worth.Jimtrombone wrote: ↑Mon Mar 25, 2019 5:45 pm Librassco- you are right about the bell side receiver.
