Good, Basic, CHEAP Alto?

I’m currently a student with little space to store an instrument and little money to purchase one. I’ve been interested in learning to play an Alto Trombone for years, and now I have an actual need for one .

I don’t plan to use it for any paid work just for personal practice and maybe a little bit of small group jazz performance in low key settings.

I’ve looked into the Jinbao alto from Horn Guys with the aftermarket leadpipe, and sadly it’s no longer available new.

Would it be worth it to search for one used? Do you guys have any suggestions for other cheap altos worth buying?

I recently purchased a used JP Rath Alto 236. It’s a decent horn and I’ve actually made some progress this time around. I’ve previously had cheap altos that were unplayable, as well as a used Yamaha that was very good, but was more than I needed.

Speaking of Horn Guys..they have a nice price on a demo Conn 36H right now. Otherwise I'd keep an eye out for any used Conn 34H, 36H, or Yamaha 871. The 34H is the least expensive since it doesn't have a trigger. Those are all gold standard's in the industry. If saving money is your goal, you'd be well-suited to by a quality-made used instrument than a new cheap one that is, well...cheap.
