Getzen 1062 slide swap
Has anyone tried putting a 1052 slide on a 1062 bell section. Basically making the 1062 a single bore instead of a dual bore. Just curious. If so what was the outcome?

At one time some dealers would allow you to buy either horn with either slide. Never played them myself so I can't comment on what happens.

Yes, that is the setup on my horn. It was like that when I bought it from another forum member. No concerns here, plays fine.

I had inquired about getting a dependent Edwards CR-E valve section, but at the time it was not in the cards.

Slides are interchangeable. I have the opposite set-up. My 1052 has a dual-bore .562-578 Getzen slide and it works great.

Just a heads up there are actually two eras of Getzen slides. 90% of them are the newer ones with removable leadpipes and Conn tenons. The older preremovable pipe slides can sometimes be Bach tenons!
I have a older 90s Getzen 1062 that I used a stock Edwards slide in for a couple of years. No mods needed.

An option might be an Edwards slide. You may have to swap out the tenant. Not a big deal.

It might be a big deal. Individual Edwards parts are very expensive. Before Edwards closed down in the spring for the pandemic, they quoted me a price of $100 for just the threaded collar to go on a leadpipe. I imagine a slide tenon could easily be $175.

Most Getzen horns use a different tenon than the Edwards horns. I think you can purchase Getzen parts from Allied if I'm not mistaken. Wayyyyy cheaper. A tech could also use a Conn tenon without too much difficultly and it'd be like a $15-$20 part.Crazy4Tbone86 wrote: ↑Sat Jun 27, 2020 10:50 pm It might be a big deal. I had a tech use a Conn tenon on a Bach 50B slide. Not too difficult of a job. But yes if you were to convert a Getzen slide to an Edwards tenon using an original Edwards part that'd be a huge pain and overly expensive.

I did this years ago. I had a 1052 with a dual bore Eddie slide. Not difficult, not expensive, as I recall. My tech ordered the part.
Maybe a tech will weigh in.
Wouldn’t you be adding a Getzen tenon to an Eddie slide?

Yes Bach5G,
I think I got that backwards. Adding a Getzen tenon to an Edwards slide would be the thing to do.....and the Getzen part would be a lot cheaper. Although......the Getzen tenons are shorter than the Edwards tenons. It would likely require some type of shim.

I don’t remember there being an issue, but it was a long time ago.

Your tech could have just trimmed off the extra inner slide tubing. That would make sense because pulling the inner slide brace closer to the bell section makes a bass trombone more ergonomic for most people.

Re: Getzen 1062 slide swap
Haven't looked at them together in a LONG time, but I am 95% certain that the threads/nut for the handslide retainer is in the exact same linear position between the Getzen Eterna/Custom horns and the Edwards horns. Just the taper rate of the handslide reciever is different. Yes the Getzen/Conn taper is shorter in length, but trimming that inner down a hair should not be difficult for a competent tech.
FWIW, I always preferred the 1062 with the 1052 slide. I can't do those Getzen/Edwards slides without the oversleeves.
Cheers,
Andy
