Last year Of Vincent Bach Corporation

Post by dapezar »

Hi everybody.

Do you know what's the last year that Bach engraved "Corporation" in their bells?
I've a Bach 42 corporation Bel with a standard slide with serial number no 44557, so the slide was made in 1980 but I don't know if this year is still in the corporation era or the slide doesn't correspond to the bell.

Thanks for helping.

I believe they stopped stamping Corp. in 1978 or 1979.

There’s a LOT of overlap on the stamping. I’ve seen horns that were purchased as a set as late as mid 80’s with the Corporation stamp. I agree with the above that they probably stopped that stamp at about that time, but with the ability of bell sections and slide sections to mix and things to be in factory and dealer inventory…. A ton of opportunity for fully new matched pairs to have contradictory information on the bell.

Could be solved if they just kept the records of the valve numbers.

Cheers,
Andy

Leave it up to Bach to have confusing stamping. Also, Conn.

Yup, should be 79 or so. I have an '81 50B with no Corp stamp.

PURCHASED as late as mid 80s, but can you be sure when those were made? Serial numbers should give some indication.

Slide serial number firmly matching the date it was purchased. Don’t make me wander downstairs and photograph it…

Bought a 16M new in April of 1987. Bell is stamped Corporation. I much later traced slide s/n to around 1983. The store told me they did not have any 16m's when I first called them. They called back within 30 min and said they found one back in storage. I don't know how long it was back there nor did I care at the time. $695 plus tax.

Exactly what could lead to later horns with “corp” bells…. If they had two 16s and somebody wanted to swap bells at the shop, nobody would have noticed and you could have had an even newer slide with the older bell sold new as a set.
