Neckpipe measurements needed for Bach 50B and Holton 183/185 single trigger bass trombone

Post by schiffko »

a question to all the techs out there.

I would need the measurements (lengh, inner and outher diameter of both the small and large end) of a Bach 50B single trigger bass and a Holton 183/185 single trigger bass trombone.
Any info and help is much appreciated!
Thank you so much!

WELL, so I have at least 5 50B neckpipes around here…. Only one is free and not installed on a valve section; that is the one that I’ll discuss most. It was from. 50BO of late ‘80s. It seems shorter than all the others, that is the marks from the solder on it would be quite visible if I installed on a pair of NY/MV sections or even a late 60’s early Elkhart. More on that in a second.

The dimensionals:
Length; 3.640”
Small: .600 ID, ~.655 OD (lots of solder junk on it)
Large: .638 ID, .685 OD (I cleaned this end off long ago)

Comparing the loose part to those on valve sections, I think it is the same part and taper, those are mostly ~650 OD to 680 OD with about 5mm and 10mm buried in the ferrules respectively. The loose part I have is just about 4-5mm shorter for some reason. Weird. Not unexpected variation, I guess.

Let me know if this info is good for what you need.
