We Want The Funk

Post by hyperbolica »

PBS has a ton of great documentaries. One of the latest from PBS is We Want The Funk (https://www.pbs.org/independentlens/doc ... -the-funk/) - basically a documentary on Funk music. Musicians of all stripes should watch this. One of the musicians featured was Fred Wesley, of Parliament Funkadelic and James Brown fame. He was credited with the most funky trombone solo ever. And he definitely sports the most tricked out 88h I've ever seen. They also managed to get some people you wouldn't expect in there like Ric Ocasek, Elton John and the whitest of white David Bowie.

They talked a lot about the business of music and of course racial relations, plus how church music figured into the development of funk and all black music in general. They even get into a little music theory.

Watching this documentary, you can't help but groove. Pull out your bass bone and play some funky bass lines. 8-)
